I have many things that I have had for years that are very special to me, but the 2 things that come to mind right now are my old Raggedy Ann & Andy dolls. My parents bought them for me just before I was born. I played with them alot when I was little and they are a little rough around the edges now, but they still mean so much to me. They are kept safe in my cedar chest.

I moved a lot and was always having to get rid of things. My parents never really had family keepsakes or things passed down from their parents. When I was in Kindergarten, there was a man that would come and monitor us on the playground, he would play with us, talk to us and just be a friend. One day he gave us all small New Testament bibles. He wrote each of our names in them. At the time, my family never read the Bible and I did not really understand the importance or meaning of it so I just put it aside. I treasured it because this man gave it to me- I was going through a time where I was being abused at home and always felt out of place at school. This man treated all of us kids with respect and as if we were special. We always felt safe, protected and cared for so this was important to me because of that. I have no idea how that bible stayed with me as I got older, it was not something I looked for or remembered but somehow after several moves, moving into states custody and moving around four times with only the bare essentials, I got married and found I still had that Bible. By this time I just put it in a box with pictures and other stuff. A few years later I came to know the Lord and God's word became the center of my life. In a spring cleaning I came across that Bible again and looked at where this man printed my name in the front- I thought about how he must have carefully printed each students name in their own B ible and felt he prayed for us- that made a huge impact on me. I collect music boxes and now keep that Bible in a locked music box that my husband gave me for my anniversary.
I lived in Texas when I was in Kindergarten and that man's name was Doug Wood. I will never forget it and never forget his kindness- I hope that if he is still out there somewhere he comes across something like this that will let him know how much of an impact he made and how much he is appreciated.
