if by DVR you mean Digital Video Recorder, then the answer is that you have to connect your DVR's video out to the computer's video in using the adequate cable, then offcourse your computer should have the adequate video in function(graphic card with video in option; TV/SAT card, or the firewire if your DVR support firewire). Then you can use any Video Editing software (Premiere, Pinnacle Studio, Ulead Studio etc) to capture the shows/movies, and then you can edit
them if you want.

Unless you want to void your DVR warranty, strip the drive and throw it into the PC, then you're only option is to hook it up to your computer directly over a video cable. To do so, your PC must have a video input on the video card. If it doesn't you'll need to buy a TV Tuner card that has the inputs you need.

I recommend the Hauppauge PVR-150 or PVR-250. The features are great, and the card is compatible with a lot of software. It fits into an open PCI slot on your motheboard and compliments your video card. If you look in the right places, you should be able to find one for around $125 or less.

On my DVR, there is only an output that for a VCR and the monitor. If there's such a thing as an RCA to USB adapter, I suppose it's possible, though I doubt it. You could check with Radio Shack on something like that. They know a lot about adapters.

If you had a DVD burner (expensive!) you could burn what you recorded, then save it/play it on your computer.
