When used as a noun, it is "the actual wording of anything written or printed".

However, when informally used as a verb, (note that this is considered slang and is not listed in the American Heritage Dictionary as a verb) it means to send a text to someone.

Technically speaking you could say that I am texting you now. However, it is most commonly used when referring to sending someone an SMS or a chat message.

The term "verb" means "action". Hence, the exact meaning and usage of the "word text as a verb" refers to the action of sending text message(s) normally via some kind of electronic devices, for example: sms via cellphone, email; etc. This is what I am doing right now to you...

When used as a verb, like " I will text you", it means to send a text message usually cell phone to that person. Can also be used for chat and instant messageing, so I am texting you right now.
