I no longer live five minutes from the next Starbucks. I miss Starbucks. Yummmmmy white chocolate mocha *drools*
But no, that's because my husband and I are stationed in Germany currently. The nearest Starbucks is either in Paris, Amsterdam, or Frankfurt am Main, which are all at least three hours away. Ah well.

Privacy...I can no longer feel like my conversations on the telephone are between myself and the person I'm speaking to.
The Right to Vote...in the case of the Iraqi war, rather than asking citizens like myself OR the Congressmen that represent me if we should go to war, the President created a law that allowed him the ability to bypass those protocals.
Freedom of Speech...just after the Iraqi war started (when I was in high school) the students were told that they should keep their mouths SHUT if they didn't agree with the war.
And Coming Soon!...
Freedom of Speech...there's actually a bill in the House of Representatives that would make it illegal to speak ill of the President or the American flag.

I can't speak out without the fear of being "questioned" or "inTERRORgated" by the FBI, ATF or other government henchmen. They are also watching us and keeping tabs, not only on suspected terrorists, but also anyone that disagrees with the government or questions the government's motives.

Here's a summary of the list. Most of these are being challenged, but they are current government policy.
If I call or email someone overseas, my phone or email can be tapped without a warrant in violation of existing federal law.
I can be declared an enemy combatant based purely on who I associate with, even if I never commit a criminal action, and even if I never advocate or support any criminal action. Under existing executive orders, the mere possibility that some of the people I might associate with might in the future commit criminal actions i sufficient to charge and convict me of aiding terrorists.
If declared an enemy combatant, as a US citizen all my life, all of my assets may be seized, without an warrant and without any trial or hearing.
If declared an enemy combatant, as a US citizen all my life, under existing executive orders I can be held indefinitely, without the ability to challenge the detention. This is in direct violation of Supreme Court rulings on the program in question, and is still occurring.
If declared an enemy combatant, as a US citizen all my life, I can be denied access to an attorney, denied grand jury proceedings, and denied any rights to a public or speedy trial. This is also in direct violation of Supreme Court rulings, and is still occurring.
Is that enough, or do you want more. Those were MY rights that were taken away. The fact that I haven't used them doesn't make them any less mine. And the fact that you personally haven't needed them doesn't make them any less yours.

I can't take water on a plane. But, somehow, life goes on. It will be temporary at any rate.
I oppose the absurd anti smoking laws. And, I don't smoke.
