The easy answer used to be 3/4 tons (1500 Lbs), but nowadays some heavy duty 3/4 ton trucks can actually carry much more than that. Find the GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) rating tag on the truck (usually a sticker on the driver's door frame.) You need to subtract the empty weight of the vehicle from the GVW rating to get the total capacity of the vehicle. Remember that capacity also includes the weight of driver and passenger, plus the weight of fuel in the tanks.

1,500 lbs correctly loaded. Not river rocks piled bed high as that is 3 tons 6,000 pounds and you might not get the truck out of the river. Always secure the load up to the cab of the truck with straps and chains.
