People say "YOU DON'T GET FREE LUNCH". so why is it free?

The term you mention, "you don't get a free lunch" actually is used in reference to our work ethics in America. Nothing in life is free is another saying we have. It just means that everything has a price & it isn NOT always paid for with money. It goes with another saying "you scratch my back & I'll scratch yours", which refers to helping one another with favors & lending a helping hand. America has a democratic government with a capitalistic system, which means that everyone pays into the system to run the democratic country. We are free to choose HOW we make our money & what we spend it on, just as long as we pay the taxes that are needed to run the country in a manner which insures the safety of the people. We are free to vote OR not to vote & we will not be punished for our choice. It isn't a perfect place, but it is all we have & it could be much worse than it is.

With freedom comes responsibility. What makes you think it America is NOT free....name a place that is MORE free.

"jj" couldnt be more wrong.. we have more restrictive laws in this country than... well we should... simple example.. seat belt law.. great idea to wear your seat belt ..but why in A FREE COUNTRY shouldnt an adult have the right to choose .. our constitution guaranties us freedom [ and thats why people say we are free] but all we do is make laws to isure our safty... where in the constitution does it guarentee out safty? winston churchill [ and ben franklyn also] said." those who will give up freedom for secrity , will end up with niether!"... and another great american said , give me liberty or give me death"... americans have gotten soft and care more about safty than freedom... shame on us!..
..."missour.." i can name 1or 2 places that are more free .. but that aint the point... even if the rest of the world were in chains dont make us as free as we could and should be... try walking into a resturaunt w/ no shoes on... i know it aint safe !... but who are you hurting??? try putting an extention on your home without a getting permision..yeah i know it aint safe ... but ITS YOUR HOME...."GOD BLESS VESPUCHILAND"

We are free to do as we choose, think as we want, as long as we do no hurt one another. It's called Freedom!
