A particularly foul-mouthed youth, one of a group outside Tesco;s today, irritated me so much today that I fetched him a clip round the ear and said, "Oh, sorry, I thought you were my Kevin". He wasn't because Kevin was probably in his room downloading pornography, but I wonder if I've discovered a method of crowd control we women could usefully employ?

You mean you don't already, Harriet? I always do.

Admittedly, I'm currently banned from the town centre - but I have my little ways.

You must remember that these youths more than likely come from disfunctional families - that's all they know. Try smiling at them, I find it normally works, if folk look down at them they will continue acting badly. If I want to know something I always choose the roughest looking youths to ask, amazingly they always react in a really helpful friendly way. It is our duty to try to help these kids and try to understand why they have such low self esteem. Give them a chance, we all like praise. Please try not to slap them as this is probably the only life they have ever known - remember the apple never falls far from the tree, however if we take the time to stop and pick it up there is a chance that we can maybe change the way the next tree will develop.

Nice attempt, I am sure it not only worked but also felt good at the time.

How many Kevin's do you know?

Not only that, but how many future Kevin's will turn against you?

Go home.

Shopping would be more fun if stores had better employees. Another thing that might be nice is if we could rent people to walk around the mall with us, carry bags, give opinions, etc.

No - next time someone might react and hurt you - gloat in the moment and move on and leave it just as it is a moment
