This is not an answer to this question-this is a communication. I recently read that you were thinking of not asking any more questions. i would ask that ya reconsider, even just at the least for the craic (fun) we get here and the great blessing we draw from your contributions. Even if you do then consider joining some of us (Coraliscious, River H and i to name a few) on Yahoo 360. Your addition would be a sweet loveliness. Dont go.
Will power and motivation? Will power is the inherent drive to reach beyond ourselves and do things whereas motivation is the reaction of our willpower to a particular thing (motive). So willpower is action and motivation is reaction.

Will power is instinct to do something. Motivation is learnt. Willpower usually doesnt want anything for doing something. It is a drive to achieve something. While you are motivated to get somehting. It is a forced drive to get rewards

I was motivated to answer your question, but since I am very tired, I needed will power to stay up and answer it. Will power is needed to accomplish something difficult or unpleasant, while motivation speaks to desire. "The spirit is willing, but the body is weak"...or something like that.
mmm...but as I age, my body may be willing, but my mind will be weak. Probably by tomorrow sometime.

Well..... Will power is the only tensile strength of one's own disposition whereas motivation refers to the initiation, direction, intensity and persistence of one's behavior

An added note.. will power cannot be increased within an individual.. it is what it is in each individual

will power comes from within yourself. Motivation is an outside influence.

Willpower is the strength to keep FROM doing something (like smoking, or drinking, or binge eating, etc....)
Motivation is the strength to DO something (like lose weight, start a budget...)

If you are motivated you will exercise. If you have willpower, you won't give in to junk food.

Motivation implies that something pushes you. Will power implies that you control your own actions.

to me, willpower is a personality trait, as in "she is a person who displays a lot of willpower in her job. it is a quality a person has or possesses, like honesty or industriousness. it stays mostly constant throughout a person's adulthood, unless something extraordinary happens.

in my mind, motivation is a skill to complete a given task. you may have a lot of willpower, but you may not be motivated to cook a 10-course dinner because you see no need to do it. motivating factors might be need, desire, or recompense. and motivation can come and go without warning.

i may be wrong, but this distinction helps me know the difference between the two.
