I enjoy working for them. At the bottom of the note it states that they do want any personal problems either be left at home as it would be unfair to give a staff member a problem that they can do nothing about. Oh My God, The only thing I can think of saying personal is that on the first day on this job my mom called me and said my dad who's 84 years old fell. I mentioned that to someone and said my dad has diabetes and I was a little concerned. I never said any more about this. Then today after getting this letter I don't know what to think - especially after a few people came up to me asking how my dad was feeling, including the person who wrote this note... I just said my dad is fine, thank you and continued with my work.... Should I look for another job? What would everyone do if they got a note in their paycheck saying this.

I would ask around to see if everyone else got a similar note. Sometimes if there is an issue with one person, companies will send out blanket letters like this. I once had a very strange conversation with a supervisor that I think was just her repeating things that her boss had told her she needed to work on. However, if you are brand new you may not be comfortable asking coworkers about this, or know who you can trust not to share your questions with your boss. I would try to tough it out for at least a few months though, as it probably wouldn't look so good to other employers if you quit now. However, this doesn't sound like the kind of environment that anyone should have to work in long term. Everyone goes through difficult situations in life, and having to work in an environment where you aren't supported during those times will only add to the stress. Not to mention the fact that you have to put up with other people being snippy because they aren't allowed to say that they are stressed out about a loved one's surgery or an impending divorce. Maybe you'll get lucky and this non-supportive b*tch will have such a high turnover rate in her department that she gets fired by Christmas. If not, definitely keep your eyes and ears open for better opportunities.

Strange behavior. Take the note tot your supervisor, or whomever wrote it, explain that you did not intentionally mean to breaks any office policy and ask what the note means, and if there are other "tips" you should know as you want to be a good employee. Then go home and have a curse put on that person! LOL

I deffinately wouldn't quit. Some people have difficulties adjusting to new things. Because your the new hot item at work, it really isn't surprising that everyone found out about your dad so quickly. For now, I would just continue doing what you are doing. Now you know that you really have to watch what you say around people. Over time, you will figure out what you can and can't say. I know it sucks, but it happens just about anywhere.

Just keep your nose to the grindstone.
Office culture is kind of weird, people get all sorts of labels for little reason.
I use a cellphone on vibrate for personal calls so I can answer them when appropriate.

It's very weird.. Your boss shouldn't have done it. Maybe it's her strange way of trying to make you feel comfortable at your job. If I were you, I'd not think too much about it. But I'd not trust people at work because they tend to talk about other people.

Talk about petty.

I'd look for another job, yes. Usually when you experience neuroticism like this, it only means that there is more to come.

Just take the note at it's word and move on.

But remember it and don't bring any personal problems to work any more. They want all their workers to concentrate on work and not personal stuff.'

im sure it is something that will blow over. maybe try talking to your new boss about the meaning of what was sent and if it was directed only towards you.
