A collection of musicians led by Chip Douglas. They are best known for their "Christmas" albums. They take great fun with the classic Christmas songs from classic baroque style to more lively versions using electric instruments. Chip Douglas was a commercial production producer that provided music for many advertisments. He decided to go outside the established record company business and created his own label and distribution business. Chip started selling his records and CD's to local Mom & Pop stores and gas stations. Mannheim Steamroller is now a company that sells music and many other items through their catalog and website. The company is extremley succsessful. Mannheim Steamroller's "Christmas" shows are very popular in the Midwest. The name Mannheim Steamroller does not mean anything. It was just two words that sounded good to Chip.

As to what a Mannheim Steamroller actually is, I have no idea.
Actually the Mannheim Steamrollers are fairly popular for their holiday music, and I think the first post reflects a considerable lack of esthetic sensibility.
