how would i know its time to do something w/the houses foundation? is it costly? do i have to contract a big company or something? what can i do to prevent the foundation from messing up?

These guys do this often, so it's no biggy to them. Get several opinions and check with the better business bureau if necessary. I would imagine that the cost would vary and I wouldn't go with a low bid chancing an error.

Depends on the problem and the fix. I had a crack that was allowing water in. I paid 750 bucks for them to come and fix it. It took them 2 hours and I have never had a problem with it again. The did a patented procedure called Flexi-foam. They garunteed the crack would not leak again for the life of the structure.

DUDE, if its messed up, call a pro, this is not a diy job.
expect to spend thousands....

If it isnt messed up now, make sure the grading drains water away from the house to minimize water damage

get a surveyor in to do a structural survey, an estate agent will point you in the right direction & rough idea of cost

It's VERY expensive. Having your house collapse is even more expensive.

companies big and small provide this service
techniques vary with terrain. Make sure company is liscened, check references (its your hard earned money)
