Yellow.
White is the next best thing, but only at night. In the daylight, white can blend in with light colored roads and the sky on overcast days.

I'd stay away from a chrome colored bike. Next time you're on the road, look at some chrome bumpers. Sometimes they can look invisible. Also the mirrored reflection can blind others on the road.

When you're out for a ride, look at other vehicles. Squint for a couple of seconds. Most colors blend in with other vehicles, buildings, the road. Yellow doesn't look like anything you would normally see on the road, and really catches your attention.

I can kind of relate to your situation, except my 2 wheels do not have a motor (I ride a bicycle). Visibility makes a big difference in personal safety. Aside from the usual stuff (rear red lights, reflectors etc), I always wear a neon yellow safety vest with reflective strips at night-time, dawn and dusk & in heavy traffic I use to wear a neon orange-safety vest, but I found it to be more effective during the day than at night, so opted with yellow instead for general use. The colour white is okay, but not as visible as the neon colours, but stands out quite well in the day-light. Cyclists/ bikers who opt to stick with dark colours can be hard to see in the distance - not the safest way of doing things! And it wouldn't hurt if pedestrians & runners considered wearing brighter colours in the evenings as well, just a personal observation.

According to the Hurt Report study on motorcycle accidents, color of the motorcycle doesn't matter for visiblity due to the small front and rear surface area. The armor you wear does matter, however. Bright yellow, white, or if you can find it contruction yellow-green, with reflective stripes on your jacket and on your full-face helmet will protect you the best.

Hot yellow green (similar to the paint used on newer fire trucks) is the most visible color in the spectrum for the human eye day or night.

Orange and red stand out but may be too dark at night.... I agree that yellow and white are also good choices for visibility, hope this makes your decision a little easier.

Truthfully I like black and here's why....the menacing factor. I've had bikes of all colors and have come to the conclusion people are intimidated by anything black...! Ride up behind a car on a black bike and more than likely they will slow down or move over....seen it many times.

The same as those used on traffic signs: yellow or white, white being the better of the two.
