I'm certainly not the only one who thinks the Republican Party has been hijacked by the far right. I only wish more Republicans had the balls to take their party back. I miss the GOP of honorable men and women. Even when you didn't always agree with them you still believed they were sincere in their beliefs.

Senator Hagel (a decent Republican) also has voiced his concerns:

The republican party line is to conform. The average republican will stick to the party line. They have very little control individually, they would like for their representatives to lead in which ever direction the leader sees fit. Too bad for them.

With the polarization of the parties, I'm not sure if that will ever happen for both the democrats and republicans. Everyone tries to push their extreme agenda without thinking about the 90% of Americans who sit in the middle of the spectrum. If a viable, moderate third party entered our system, the polarization might cut down. But that will probably never happen.

I agree. I remember when Richard Nixon was president we were a respectable nation. (Not being sarcastic either). I voted for R.R. twice and the 80's changed a lot , probably the seventies too. I'd really like to see both sides start handling our country with a more level head. We haven't had a president that could pull the country together for as long as I can remember. Sorry to unload and I know this wasn't much of answer.
Peace be with you.

Interestingly, I have the same feeling about you liberals and the Democrat Party. It's gone so far left that we can't see it anymore. I miss those honorable men and women who are able to discuss and have actual ideas instead of blame and whine and accusations. Joe Lieberman is one of them trying to stick it out, but the ultras are fighting hard to force him out, too. What do you think of him?

Fanaticism is the enemy of civil discourse. It's what makes some people strap on dynamite to kill themselves along with a couple of 'infidels'. GOP has had the Senate, the Congress and the White House. What did you show America? A wanna-be Dictator who 'interprets' the laws.
