(Wow..all these haters..) I think they're definitely up there in terms of thrash metal (Slayer is king). Greatest band in existence? Nope. Thaaaat would have to go to either The Beatles or the mighty Led Zepp. And bringing up the whole whiny napster "we want our $$" crap...just get over it. GEEZ.

Metallica are good, but not that good, they went downhill in my opinion when the made St Anger album, and trust me guy, theres loads of other bands that are far better than Metallica, try checking out Children Of Bodom, now, theres a band u can never tire of listening to

Metallica has done extremely well by a grateful dead like following and sold many many albums, but in existence - from that which it began to this very moment - i gotta go with Floyd.

I wouldn't consider them the greatest band but they are way better then Panic at the disco and Fallout boy!

Sadly, their music went into the can when they cleaned themselves up and got off drugs/booze. They haven't had a decent song since then that was worth listening to.
For a few years there though, they were the SH$T. And luckily I got to see them in concert when they were on top.

they are pretty awesome...i really love their older albums when they were much harder but they're still good. one of my favorite bands for sure. it's hard to say if they are the "greatest" because i like a lot of other bands too.
