All of these people say that is was George Washington, but they may be wrong. Washington was inaugurated in 1789, many years after the country was formed. I believe that the first president was Samuel Huntington, who was president of the "United States in Congress Assembled". There is a lot of speculation around who may have been the first president of the United States, however, so I would not be quick to believe that it was George Washington without asking some questions. Here is an interesting article from US news, read it before believing that Washington was really the first president of the U.S.

It was George Washington, founding father, patriot, appears on currency.... don't feel too horrible about asking, if you don't know, you don't know.
