My friend gave me a vacume for free, but it does not have a belt. The vacume is kind of old, and I cannot find a belt for that model. Does the vacume still work if I use it without a belt?

The belt drives the rollerbrush, so without the belt you only get the suction of the vacuum. Without the brush you won't really get much dirt up off the floor.

The only vacuums that I know of that use "belts" are the uprights like Hoover, in these the belt is used to turn the brushes underneath but do not control the suction side. If this is the case then the vaccum will still work just not as efficiently..... belts for these are readily available and relatively simple to attach.

It would work poorly, if at all: The belt is what turns the beater that loosens and sweeps dirt up into the vacuum.

Have you tried running searches for that make and model? There might be an obscure source of belts out there.

Good luck!

Put the model number and brand name on a search engine and type the word belt. You are bound to find the belt... Also take it to a vacuum repair shop. They can help you find a belt and you can usually just install it yourself. Usually a vacuum does not work without the belt because the motor runs everything... the vacuum pump and the roller

The belt normally operates the brushes on the bottom of the cleaner, while it will still suck up, without the bushes it will not work well at all.

Belts only cost a few dollars and are available for almost any model. Merely contact a vac shop and I bet you can get one.

it will work...after a fashion. picks up the little stuff and it gets all clogged around the roller/beater bar then just spreads the dirt around from place to place.
On the bottom you'll find a model number.
Call or Search engine the manufactorer ( Eureka, Kirby, Hoover, Electrolux,Rainbow,Kenmore/Sears,etc) and search their site for replacement parts. You can always email them at the contact us button and ask for dealers/ retailers in your area that may carry the items you need!
Mom & Pop repair shops also carry older model replacement parts and most can and will tell you where to order the parts for direct shipment to you.
Or repost the model /maker here and maybe someone can help you find the place(s) that carry it???
Good luck!

No. If it is an upright vacuum, it depends on the belt to drive the brushes. Unless it is some really weird brand, you should be able to find a belt for it. Find a sewing and vacuum shop in your area, and call them. If they don't have the right belt, they can tell you where to get one.

No. The belt turns the roller that has the brushes on it. Without the belt you are only sucking air.Try going online to the manufacturer of the vacumn snd see if they can help you.

I wouldn't use it without the belt. It will not perform normally. If you can't get a belt for it the best bet is to not use it.
