Nope. If you are new to a place then getting to know people is hard. People are social animals and like to interact so wanting to "chat" is a natural emotion. You should get out and talk to people if you want to though, don't be afraid to do that. However, some people are shy and/or do not like interacting in most social settings. That doesn't make them a loser either. Ignorance does not make someone less than anyone else.

That's a defeatist mindset that won't help you much... Yet another way to look at it, though, is to think of how much courage and how much of a pioneering spirit it takes to confront the unknown head-on and face the challenge of making it "work" for you. You have a unique opportunity ahead of you. What you do with this challenge can shape your perspectives on every challenge you face from this day forward. That sounds like a bona fide shot at "winning" to me.
