my fiance and I moved to a new city about a year ago so I could go to school. I've made a few school friends, but due to a major social set back during my first university degree I've become incredibly introverted, and I hardly ever feel like doing things with them outside of school. I want to make friends, but being so shy it's difficult. I'm not into the bar scene so I hardly ever go out with the girlfriends I've made here, and they're starting to leave me out because I never want to go out with them. I'm really bad with speaking to people first, so I'm not exactly sure what I can do to meet people. My fiance and I both like to go out to restaurants and to coffee houses, movies etc, but none of them seem to be conducive to meeting people. I'm also having a hard time finding book clubs in our area that aren't full of old people (no offense of course, but we're both in our early 20's). I'd love to stop spending more time with my cats then with actual people. Help!

Well nothing against old people as i am 49 but book clubs would be nice even if people my age or older are there as they might have children your ages. If you tell them that you are new to town , they might introduce to there children as they would know if you would get along or not. Also try a bowling league. Most churches have young couples clubs also.Next semester take a speech class that should help bring you out of your shell.

Both joining with a bowling league. If you like to bowl. A mixed group or all girl league. Belonging to an exercise club if you want to eat healthy and lose weight or just to tone your body to stay as you are! They have unisex men & woman or just same sex clubs. Belong to a swimming pool club for making friends or just the fun of it! Have a great day and make some decisions on making friends and doing things you like to do with other people you like to be with!

My fiance and I are also in our 20's and are experiencing the same problem except we have not moved. We just don't seem to have the same priorities as people we've already known in our age group.I plan on trying to do more things that we're interested in and frequenting places and activities we like and maybe we'll begin to notice faces and can build some new mutual friendships.

What I found interesting is that you have no problem expressing yourself in words. I wish you could channel that energy in a conversation with a person. You have the potential. I'd try connecting with the known friends you have. Strengthening relationships. If you can't connect with them, meeting others in different places won't improve things, you'll just continue the same problems. What does you fiance say?

get on the internet, find chat clubs, you might have to get out of your protective shell & ghet some nerve up to actually minghle at some of the bars or clubs around, take vitamins, get your attitude on a better level, you sound depressed, go rollar skating, join in different teams of sports, get yourself involved in doing stuff besides staying home, playing with the cat, get out, walk around, do some window shopping, have a smikle on your face, wear sexy clothes to be noticed, so what if people take advanage of you, you want to be popular, you will get what you are looking for when you get yourself noticed by others who think that you are cool & you can handle yourself in any situation, learn self-defense to ward off the perverts & sex related people unless you want sex then go for it,

Ironically, you and your boyfriend sound like a couple of seniors, why not join them for bingo and book club, you might actually enjoy yourself. You can actually have fun w/ people of any age if you have an open mind.

Here goes...go to church, join a gym, take classes in something, learn a new hobby/sport, volunteer anywhere they take them. If you're not working get a job. If you are working seek people who share your interests at work. Get a dog and take the dog on walks or to a park where other people take their pets.
