Depending on the brand you could possibly order a replacement rack. I know that a replacement will cost you quite a bit though, depending on how much you want to spend. Or if you a do it yourselfer then I would recommend a good spray paint, like a kilz product or something simular to it. Once the primer dries then you are ready for the next step of painting it. Make sure you use paint that is for metal and plastic. You will need to make sure you have good coverage.

They make coating for the racks and it can be found at an appliance parts store. You could also buy it on line but I am afraid that the S&H would cost more than the coating.

They sell special paint just for that purpose, one that will take the wear of the harsh detergent. Check with stores that sell large appliances like Sears, HD, or Lowes

I wander if that rubber paint would work on it. Sorry, I can not think of the name of it. But, you dip your tools in it and it creates a rubber grip on the handles (it has different colors). I just do not know if it would survive a dish washer but, it might be a solution.
