We thought this one would prove a little tricky to answer, so needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised when a search on "fonzie happy days motorcycle led us right to your answer (sort of).

The very first site listed in our search results, a Happy Days picture gallery, led us to the low-down on Fonzie's ride after just a few clicks. In the trivia section of the site, we found this comment:

As the show was on for 11 seasons, he probably had several different types. In the early episodes where he is wearing an off-white windbreaker, it is probably a Harley-Davidson Sportster. In the later episodes, it is probably a pre-unit 500 Triumph twin. Another possibility is a BSA.

Next we checked in with the Guardian Unlimited, which addressed this question in its Notes and Queries section. The paper concurred with our previous finding, saying that the Fonz rode various Triumphs and Harleys.

We burned rubber over to the TV Guide Online web site, where a fan of the series posed the same question. This time the information was a little more specific, stating that in the early shows, the Fonz rode a Harley Sportster, and in the later shows, he rode a "pre-unit 500 Triumph twin."

And finally, at Google Groups, a thread about the Fonz's motorcycle of choice confirms that one bike was a Triumph, but posters here say the other bike was a Harley Davidson Knucklehead rather than a Sportster.

So the general consensus is that Arthur Fonzarelli had some sort of Triumph and some sort of Harley, but as for exact models, we may never know precisely what he rode. Too bad his bikes aren't in a museum like his leather jacket.

Fonzie's Motorcycle - Custom street motorcycle seen on the sitcom HAPPY DAYS/ABC/1974-84. One of the main characters on the program was Arthur "Fonzie" Fonazarelli, an ultra-cool Italian-American garage mechanic with former ties to a street gang (The Falcons). To get around his home turf of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Fonz rode a motorcycle. In the very early episodes he rode custom Harley-Davidson models. In the later episodes he rides a Triumph motorcycle. Overall, the Fonz drove a variety of models including Harley Panhead, Harley Knucklehead, Harley Sportster, Triumph 500 CC Twin, Trophy 650 CC and a BSA. The Fonz parks his bike in front of Arnold's Drive-in Restaurant (where he beckons a bevy of lovely young ladies with the snap of his fingers) or by his garage apartment at the Cunningham home.

Lorry, I stopped crying years ago. I wish I could. I still get really sad some times, but the tears just won't come. Not even happy tears. No tears at all.
