if you ctrl+alt+delete, on the bottom it should say "cpu usage" with a % next to it. if the % is too high, then your computer is overworking.

Modern computers are typically heat protected. If it is 'too hot' it will freeze or shut down.

There are downloadable utilities that report the temp that is recorded by the mainboard sensor. Try PC Magazine website.

Turn the computer to the side, and listen to the fan. Is it louder than usual? is the heat pumping out of it hotter than usual? is the case hotter than usual? is your computer randomly shutting off?

Well, is your cooling fan coming off and on every so often? If it is, then you are probably fine. If it is on all the time or more than usual than take it apart (unplugged of course) and clean it out. It may be really dirty. Good luck.

I use speedfan myself, it works good. Overheating computer isn't good, you might need to clean the fans and heatsink since they get covered in dust, also you might need to keep open one side panel to help keep it cool.

If it is working OK... If the fans are all running... If you have not allowed dust to clutter all of the vents.... Then you are all set.
