The use a very powerful power nailer and concrete nails ( I think) I've watched them do it
but I'm not sure about the nail part.

If you are installing carpet over the whole floor and completely covering the tile. I recommend that you remove all tile since tack strips would require a lot of pressure and I know of no adhesive that would withstand this. Tack strips should be nailed to wood floors. Also check with your local tile or carpet dealers. May they have a new system.

Use either quarter inch mollies or anchors with flat head screws and countersink the tack strip so that the top of the screw is flat with it. This is what my husband said. Good luck.

Edit: He also says you can get PL400 construction adhesive and glue them down to the floor and wait one day for adhesive to cure before laying carpet.
