The distillation principle is that when 2 or more liquids
of different boiling points are subjected to heat , the vapors that result have a higher percentage of the liquid
with the lower boiling point. For example, when a wine of
12% alcohol is heated, its vapors are roughly 24% alcohol. So when the vapors are cooled and liquefied you've doubled the percentage of your brew. Then there's
fractional distillation. It's what they do with crude oil. This
stuff breaks down to several different components.
They heat it until it all vaporizes except the component
with the lowest boiling point - the tar. That runs off first.
The vapors rise and are cooled and the first thing that
condenses is motor oil, then kerosene, then gasoline and
finally they just catch propane and butane in its gaseous form. As each component condenses, it's drawn off.
Good enough?

Distillation is best used to separate a homogeneous mixture of a liquid and a solid. Distillation is often not suitable for separating two liquids from each other as they tend to boil off together as an azeotropic misture at an intermediate boiling point.

They are things that can only be discovered after hundreds and hundreds of trials. And of course, strict restriction needs to be in place. However, because the basis of science is always changing due to new discoveries, we need to also have sympathy to the drug company as well. They are not miracle makers, they only try to make profits by selling something that they "think" might help other people. Imagine the world without antibiotics and other medication, how many people would have to die? If we agree that science can be changed, the drug company might not have an excuse of increasing medication prices because of law suit. Also if we look at any other area that has used the socialist system it has bogged down and failed to live up to its Utopian promise. No system is perfect but open and free market is the best out there.

Distillation is used when there are liquids that are miscible in each other, that is they mix together and is unable to separate using filtration, stuff like that.

Distillation is done by their boiling points.

Usually it is used to separate two substances with dissimilar boiling points. It is nearly impossible to separate two substances with similar boiling points using distillation.

to distill mash into grain alcohol, boil your alcohol/ mash solution to a vapor (178 degreesF i believe) collect the vapor and pass it through a tube away from the heat .....
if you cool this tube , the vapor condenses into alcohol (without all the other "impurities)

its the difference in temperature that allows us to extract the alcohol and leave the water behind
