Burn out.
The Rolling Stones have been putting out crappy albums for the past 20 years. Nobody cares.
Buddy Holly, who the Stones covered many times, literally burned out and at least he doesn't have a million mediocre songs out there.
In the end the quality of your 'good stuff' is what matters...though most 'modern' music will be forgotten eventually whether the artist flamed out or was wheeled off of life's stage with a broken hip.
