Not quite.
You forget about the peace between Lebanon and Israel. A lot of the recent spike in oil prices was caused by the fear (just the fear) that Iran might stop supplying the West with oil to help cut the support for Israel. Also BP has finally figured out how much their oil capacity will be reduced and they have promised to not take all their pipes off service. [The record profits made by the oil companies is due to this climate of fear, the price of manufacturing oil has remained the same, only what they produce is more valuable, so they get rich.]
It is easy to put things like this down to the politicians or to assume a conspiracy. If it was really an election stunt then it would have been done in October. Consumers have a short memory if the price dropped suddenly around Halloween then it would be a great boost for the party currently in power. It wouldn’t make any sense to do it now.
The gas and oil market is pretty tight. The only group that has the power to cause such a drop in oil prices is the US Government with its national oil reserves. They have already used some of that reserve to try and reduce the price of oil twice. If it were an election stunt they would have waited until just before the election to do it. They probably won’t pull this stunt because it would be so transparent and probably make their election losses even worse.
However, the price of gas will go up again. As soon as it starts getting cold the oil companies will switch over to producing heating oil, that will drop the reserves and gas prices will spike. It happens every year, and has so for the last 20 years. It makes me mad every time it happens. I like to think that it is a trick to raise the oil companies’ profit, but it isn't. The oil supply is that limited.
Iran has rejected the UN demands to stop its Uranium Enrichment program. Now, as Jay Leno said last night, Iran is bracing for a firm letter from the UN. If Iran continues to try and develop and atomic bomb, and they will; then the US will have to try and do something about it. The best option is a limited bomb strike, but that’s how Israel destroyed Iran’s last Uranium Enrichment Plant. Iran has buried their new plant so deep that it will take a concentrated attack, maybe even a nuclear one to really destroy it. War in the Middle East will only cause the price of oil to rise. If a nuclear weapon is used then that will only increase the tensions and could possibly lead to nuclear war. Whatever the US does to try and stop Iran is going to make Iran angry. If they are that angry then they could threaten to cut off their oil supply, which will only make the prices jump again. This is going to happen, because having to pay $5.00 a gallon for gas is the better alternative. When Iran builds the atomic bomb they won’t use it. To do so would turn the entire world against them. They founded Hezbollah in 1982 to “drive Israel into the sea.” The rocket attack on Israel was funded by Syria, and the hardware was supplied by Iran. So when Iran builds the atomic bomb they will just “sell” some small ones to Hezbollah to use against Israel. Hezbollah is probably already drawing up plans to use them. If that happens then WW3 could break out. With the result of a lot of radioactive oil reserves, imagine what that will do to the price of oil.
Be happy with the recent drop in oil prices, it isn’t going to last. By the end of October those prices are going to start creeping up again. The price of oil is only going to continue to rise, and too many Americans are blind to this. That’s why people, even former oil man George Bush, keep saying we need to develop alternative fuels and alternative sources of energy.

Yes I do. The republicans want a majority in the house and they figure they can it by lowering gas prices right now. As soon as the elections are over they will sky rocket once again.

Not really. If it were a conspiracy by Republicans, they would have kept them low the whole time. The price of oil is determined by the world market.
Also, if the oil companies were involved in all this "collusion," why did gas prices go down NOW? Wouldn't they want to keep them high over the upcoming Labor Day weekend, which is big for travel?
Love, Jack.

It's a combination of many factors. The lack of hurricanes in the U.S. this season, Increases in the gasoline reserve, Iran didn't set off a nuke this week like they promised, fewer people are flying because of the terror plot in the U.K., and the laws of supply and demand because the people refuse to pay more than 3 bucks a gallon.

That's an interesting theory! If we are right in thinking oil companies are supported by the government, YES! It does look like the Republicans may lose seat in Congress so it would help them, We shall see if prices rise : when they start production of heating oil.

More to do with the fact that summer is ending and families aren't driving everywhere. It's the same thing every year. If OPEC has its own agenda, well then who knows what that may be.

NO!!! It's seasonal, prices are always higher in the
summer, because more people are driving and when school starts, prices drop, because less people are driving.
