At school everyday people make fun of this really smart girl, she has the whole as people would say the "geek look" with the very big glasses and so on...Ive talked to her and she is really nice and she helps me with my problems but sometimes people would come up to her and call her "geeky girl" or "Super nerd" right in front of me and she doesnt say anything, she just looks at me and starts crying of course i stuck up for her. Why do people gotta be so mean to people who are smarter then them? especially those boys who are Jocks!?

because people can't understand them, if you're better than someone in your grades or stuff like that people just become mean, most of the time is jealousy. Also, society rewards brainless athletes instead of smart people

I myself had exactly the same dilemma in ALL my schooling years from Grade 1 up. I was and AM a GEEK here & I'm proud of that.
I'm 36yrs old now. Remember the smarter you are NOW the better chances for Colleges & Universities you have. THUS you will be literally LOOK UPTO once ya hit College/University for answers. Give them as you are a smart & likely quite knowledgeable lady.
You will bump into a gent. later on that LIKES that & wants that more than those other "dumb blonde" (sorry the term/phrase but twas the only I could think of) that just go out and literally go date everyone that wants them. YOU however can obtain a smart gent later on and hook onto a good one just because you yourself are smart.
As overall, for an ACTUAL later WIFE, they prefer the SMART ladies than the dumb ones.
PSSST I'm a geek too and am finding lots of ladies looking at me even at my own age now... ;-)

Lack of intelligence!!!! People are afraid of what they are not familiar with and strike out against it. Don't worry too much. . . when all of these mean people grow up they will realize that all these "geeky" people are their supervisors and authority figures making lots of money while the "jock" are on the bottom of the barrel scrapping just to put food on the table working over time and holidays, while there again the geeks are spending quality family time on some tropical island having a good time!!

if you think about it they would say "ohh im rich, im better than her" or maybe they wish they could be smart like her, and everyone knows that if you are smart you have a better chance of being more succesful in life than if you are a average or below average. so they probably either think they are better than her, or they are jealous because she is smart and all they have is popularity, or a ripped out body. they also are insecure, since for preps or jocks it would seem a bit akward if they teased or poked fun at themselves, then they would get mad at each other and throw the person out of the group, so for this not to upset ther "friends" they poke fun at the little people, the ones that are at the very bottom of the pyramid, when eventually those people will grow fat, ugly, and poor, where as the "nerd" will be smart, nice, and beatiful inside and out ( no idea y i said that), and everyone will want to be around them.

The reason is, those who make fun of smarter kids are jealous because they themselves are not as smart. They have a self esteem problem and they tease other kids who are smarter then them and that makes them feel bigger and better, but in reality it's just pure mean. The smart ones are going to succeed in life and have good careers while the not so smart ones will struggle in life and have problems holding down jobs.

This is a big problem in school...it was where I went too and I helped the litle guy too. They pick on them as they are seen as different. Wat the jocks do not realize is that this "nerd" will become rich, successful, beautiful, and they will continue to live their high-school lives pumping gas and living with the parents. Tell her not to worry. Tell her to be strong. Stay and help her. She will be your best friend because of it-and a smart intelectually challenging person is more rewarding to be around than a "dumb jock" any day of the week.

It's called envy.
One of the more reprehensible aspects of human nature.
But why do "nerds" have to look so "nerdy"?
What's with the big glasses, the funny clothes, the inhibitions?
I knew smart people at school, in fact, not to brag, but I was one of them. We never dressed like that, we mingled, people never made fun of us because of our intelligence either.
I think some "nerds" come across as having airs, people don't like that. Not to say that makes it right to make fun of them, but some of these guys bring it on themselves.
You can dress how you want to, but, like anything, don't overdo it, or you must be prepared to live with the consequences.
Help your friend by advising her to act and dress normally, make her interact with people more.
In this "free" world, either she has to change her attitude or they have to accept her for who she wants to be. The second one ain't gonna happen, not at that age.
She doesn't have to change who she is, she just shouldn't overdo it.
Help her.

They are jealous, unkind, and insensitive. They just don't know she might be the next CEO or founder of a multi-millionaire company. That was courageous of you to stick up for her. Maybe you could help her in some areas. Like hair, maybe suggest contacts or smaller frames, or just how to block out peoples comments and keep her head high. I guarantee it will be like a episode of Maury in the future where the people that pick on her look like crap and she looks like some supermodel that they slob over. "Just Friends" the movie was a good example. Secondly, stupid people like that cause other people to come to schools and shoot up people because of their wreckless comments (One Tree Hill episode----guy was picked on constantly and one day he had enough and came to school with a gun). Not knowing or just not caring that their comments affect people physically as well as mentally.

I, myself being like your friend a smart one know how your friend feels and i also know where you're coming from. I think it is because as it is human nature they fear the unknown. they don't know her and wont take the time to know her because they fear their social status will go down if they are caught by their peers socializing with an outcast. their friends egg them on by telling them that they'll be out of the group if they don't do it and they keep going till it becomes almost second nature. what they don't know is that they are sabotaging themselves by being mean to the one person that can help them with their school work.
