One of the things that drove me further and further away from the Republican party ( I actually do still vote for one major Republican because I have the utmost respect for him ) is the anti-intellectualism that has become rampant amongst its base and its new leadership.
Along with a hatred of science, they've literally gone on a bender against education. One can only assume that it's exactly that - they wish to keep people uneducated. Why is it that Red States make up 8 of the ten lowest scoring states in education and Blue States make up 8 of the ten highest scoring states? Do anti-educational attitudes play a part in it?
I think so.

I have seen a tendency for some educators to encourage and overly reward less than brilliant students because of their enthusiasm. Have you ever seen the "bad boy' in class become the teachers pet? Someone who is basically not a good student but because he takes an interest in some subject is praised beyond what his efforts deserve. I have witnessed this phenomena even more on a college level. Someone I know personally began writing in his freshman year in a very unpolished style. He really didn't know how lacking in skill he was and so a very little praise encouraged him a lot. This continued throughout his college years until today he is a university asst. professor. He really doesn't have the intellect one normally associates with this position but he has the confidence. It's working for him. It's almost like he's the emperor with no clothes and nobody has had the courage to tell him he's naked. One could argue that this is a good thing..a success story. The problem is it's intellectual dishonesty that is a result of a liberal approach to education that often rewards the unconventional and bizarre. And now this guy is teaching other young and impressionable students who will pick up the same unconventional attitudes and will be graded according to how well they regurgitate them. I don't suppose this applies so much to mathematics and the sciences, but certainly in all the liberal arts and humanities areas this has been more often than not the case. The result is university faculties with a significant number of pseudo-intellectuals like Ward Churchill producing more clones of themselves, each generation less capable of critical thinking.

No - listening to republican radio hosts makes you dumber.
Just joking. Seriously does going to college make you dumber???
Huh?
This sounds like Neo-Con logic to me. Be afraid of people that want to make everyone less informed and less able to think for themselves...

obviously you can learn a tremendous amount in college..in sciences , math, business etc,,,
what i am sure they were speaking of is there are certain faculties where only one side is taught and in colleges that tends to be the liberal view...I have found this to be true......instead of teaching , many instructors use it as a pulpit to espouse their personal biased viewpoint...young, inexperienced minds tend to be more malleable and are swayed unknowingly by this view..seeing it as an absolute truth opposed to what it really is a viewpoint..but what bothers me most is they rob the student of the benefit of critical analysis ..looking at both sides....I find many people coming out of college have poorly developed critical analysis skills and that I think is the real harm

College doesn't make you dumber; it makes you more aware of the fact that you (the average person) know very little and that you still have much to learn. It opens your eyes to your own ignorance and encourages you to learn.

The Leftist indoctrination we get at my University DEFINITELY is making students dumber.
It is robbing them of the ability to seek facts and reason.
