Yes - competition is good for economy.
The prostitutes get a standard scale, they stay clean, and customer service will improve a thousand-fold

Legal prostitution works in Nevada. I've been to brothels there a few times. The women are clean from STD's including HIV, or else they wouldn't be able to work at a brothel because the state requires the women to get tested once a month. The facilities I went to were clean, and the women for the most part were nice. And I'm pretty damn sure that the Nevada brothels are taxed by the state and federal governments.
I am NOT saying that prostitution should be legalized everywhere in the US. But I believe some states, counties, or cities tolerant enough of legal prostitution should be allowed to legalize it. San Francisco, for example.

I have two different thoughts about this question. The way I was raised has to be a Hell No! As to the direction our world is moving, it's a Yes. Why? Taxed money. Gasoline is taxed by federal, state and local governments. Why not prostitution? Why not legalize marijuana? Between legalized prostitution and legalized marijuana we could have free federal-paid medical insurance. Note: If your going to use any of these two thoughts in real life, use protection. Don't be stupid.

It is legal in Amsterdam. It is controlled and safer for the prostitutes and the customers. They are tested for disease and it is less dangerous that way. In that respect it would help it if it were legal.
From a moral view point, no.

It is the oldest profession in the world. However, most prostitutes are funding other means...like drugs and alcohol. There are very few "Pretty Woman" hookers out there. Most have severe problems with self esteem. For taxation ...sure...a great idea...but most don't make the kind of money that they claim. And if they do, it usually goes up their nose, in their veins, or down their throat. Hollywood can glamorize it all they want...but unless they are high-end escorts, most can barely pay the rent, much less taxes.

of course, as its the oldest profession and its going to occur no matter what, besides its easier to control STD this way, plus research has proven that in countries where prostitution is legal, sexual violence against women tends to drop

i don't know where u are at but in the state of Nevada it is legal. the girls have to work in the houses and be tested every week, and can not soloist out side clients. i like it because it means that if i choose to go out among the horny masses, and don't want to be bothered i can just send the guys to the whore house.

the only reason I would say yes is so that prostitutes could get licenses for what they do and have mandatory health checks, to make sure they aren't spreading diseases.
