Its best to give them cheerios when they have teeth, but watch your son when you feed him, does he mash the food with his gums instead of just moving it with his tongue? If he's mashing its a good time to give him cheerios, because cheerios when soggy by saliva, are easy to break apart in the mouth. My son didnt start on cheerios untill he was about 10 months because i was scared of him choking...but i postponed a lot of things because i was too paranoid. But i go to my states program of WIC and they gave me a pamphlet about cheerios saying that if they can mash they can chew or something. But if your paranoid like i was, you can go to the store and check out the gerber products in the older baby sections. They have these things called "Veggie Puffs" that instantly melt in your babys mouth. That was the road i took before i started the cheerios.

In regards to:
"they cant choke on them because they have a hole." Thats the dumbest thing i've ever heard!!! LFMAO where did you hear that from?

Chloe, it doesn't matter if it has a hole in the cheerio or not. Have you tried breathing through a cheerio? The hole is not big enough to get adequate air through it.

My friend's pediatrician told her cheerios are fine at 6 months as long as the baby is doing fine with baby food. I bought fruit puffs instead (made by Gerber, I think) and gave them to my son at 6 months old because they actually dissolve. I felt safer doing that. I started giving him Cheerios at 8 months. But I think I was just being paranoid.

Cheerios are fine for babies this age. The hole in the middle has nothing to do with it either! It is safe because everyone knows how much babies DROOL! Well, the slober, spit, drool... softens the cheerio within a few seconds and baby is safe! Only one cheerio at a time though, until baby is a bit older!

I wouldn't give him any cheerios yet. Only becuase he is 61/2 months old. That's still kinda young. My niece is 10 months and we just started giving her solids a couple months ago. She got teeth at 8 months old Now if you want you could start him with soft foods like mashed potatoes,or the baby cookies that disolve in their mouth(before they can choke) My lil girl was about 8 months when I started her on cheerios. She also got her teeth around that age. Every baby is different though. You can try if you want only you know your child.,just be beside him and see how he handles it.

It all depends on the baby. After he's started eating baby food, give him a couple cheerios to see how he likes it. You know whatever he sees in front of him will usually end up in his mouth. Let him try it. It might seem like he's gagging on them a little at first, but don't worry, they disolve in a few seconds. He'll gum it down to nothing in no time.

I started giving my oldest cheerios at about 7 or 8 months (it was actually one of her first foods), but I broke them up into pieces. She started getting them whole around 9 months. I think she got her first teeth at 8 months. They can use their gums to chomp them up and cheerios dissolve fairly easily in the mouth.

Try those gerber fruit puffs they melt really fast. As far as crakers go they also soften easily but you might wait for the cheerios until they get theyre bottom 2 teeth in the front
