This handed off to me perchance two times and it sucks the first time... yet someway i have been given it found out. in conserving with my own observations, this frequently takes position even as the usb gadget plugged into unexpectedly losses power (even as intercommunicating), each and every so often an impact surge ought to reason this. so installation the drivers again and again gained't do because the gadget itself is tousled with the making use of that homestead windows XP use to intercommunicate. i'm no longer retaining that this may artwork certain, yet someway i have been given to artwork two times... basically attempt to unplug the gadget and performance it appropriate into yet another laptop (with USB port) and allow that is recognised via that laptop... even as that is recognised, plug it again to the unique laptop it replaced into before plugged. i comprehend it would not make experience yet i trust there are some electric powered aspects that ought to reason this malfunction. yet otherwise is... basically go away it UNPLUG for 0.5 an afternoon or an complete day, and plug it again... probable it would observe of the gadget itself. attempt all this before atleast tempting to reformat! you'll basically waste sufficient time doing so.. a useless ringer for what i did in the first time.

It could be as innocuous as a bad USB cable, if you can, get another USB cable for your web cam (provided it is not a proprietary or permanently attached cable).

If that's not it then it is broken. If other USB devices are working (in the same USB port) then your USB ports and motherboard are functioning correctly. If you have trouble with devices in the same port, the port may be fried so try another one. And so on.

It could be the USB port(s) on your computer have gone bad. I have seen this on laptop USB ports. The best thing to do is try a known good USB device on the computer to verify that the ports are working, and try the camera on another computer to see if the problem follows the camera or the computer.

Try the device(if possible) on another system to verify the status of the webcam.

Try another USB device(if possible) to verify the status of your USB controller/ports.

I had a similar problem with a phone cable. I had to buy a new one. both cables work now though. It may be a break somewhere in the cable.

Looks to me or it is your cam(try installing the driver first and then connect the cam) or windows problem...

you prabably have to get a new webcam. sometimes webcams, mics, speakers, printers, monitors, or even motherboards crash. make sure it is compatable with your compy before you buy it, though.
