No you do not all you need to do is go down to your local welfare office and they will lead you the way, My sister in law got child support from my brother in law even when they were not divorced just seperated is all, he had to pay a lot I know as I seen what he was paying ... any way there should be info there at the welfare office. they can tell you where the child enforcement office is and or it should be in the same building but then again sometimes its not. Good luck any way.

No, but you do need to have a child. You can be never married or legally separated. A lot of times when you file legal separation papers or divorce papers a decree is made for the temporary support of the child.

No, you don't need to have been married and you can collect from your spouse after you split but without being divorced, at least in a lot of states. You may have to prove paternity, which can be as easy as presenting witnesses to the father claiming the child as his. Keep in mind that the amount of support will depend on how much the other parent earns and how many children they have.

I suggest that you speak with an attorney who is more qualified to tell you for sure; conditions differ from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and only those that deal with the situation can best advise you (family matters/divorce matters/child custody/etc. Don't waste your time listening or reading other people's opinions... that ain't gonna help you!

Not at all. The person could be separated and still get child support.

No. You dont have to be married, or living together or anything like that. All you have to do is have the fathers name on the birth certificate to sue for child support
