It depends on the method used, and your pain tolerance levels.
In my experience, pitocin hurts like crazy. Some people tolerate it well, I'm not one of them. If you are on pitocin, ask them to up the dosage gradually, and once your contractions are regular, ask them to turn it off and see if you can continue without it.
Cervical dilation agents are supposedly gentler on mom and baby. They're made from pig semen, because it contains high levels of prostaglandins that soften the cervix and cause it to dilate. If it were *me* I'd ask to start with this first, and see if it is enough to get labor going.
Whatever you do, REFUSE to be induced with Cytotec (misoprostol). It is not safe, has a high risk of uterine rupture, and the manufacturer even warns against using it for ANY reason in a pregnant woman. Some caregivers still use it because it's cheap... well, to me it's more important to use something safer as opposed to risking my life and my baby's life to save a couple bucks.

Hi, for a more detailed answer, here you go, I was induced with all three of mine, reason, because my body didnt produce the hormone to start labor. Being induced itself DOES NOT HURT. All they do is start pitocin in an IV and possibly break your water and/or strip the membranes. That hurts! Had to get all that done with my last one and still had a c-section. The pitocin will make contractions come harder and stronger so in essence, yes its hurts, but its the same labor pains, just a bit more intense. Up side, labor goes faster. Hope this helps, Good Luck and God Bless you and your new baby

I was induced with my first child, and I didn't think it was so bad. I went to the hospital the night before for cervix softening. The next morning, my OB showed up and broke my waters. After that, labor progressed for a while, and I was very glad to have ordered the epidural. I ended up needing pitocin later in the day because I stalled out at 9cms.
With my second birth I went into labor on my own. The main difference was that I had to drive to the hospital having contractions. When I was induced, I got to get all settled in my hospital room before anything happened.
Good luck and hope you have a happy, healthy baby -- Soon!

I was induced and that's not the part that hurts. On my first child they started out by just breaking my water and seeing if that would make things get going. You might want to ask about that.

No...inducing does not make it hurt any worse.
They will give you something intraveinously like pitossin (not sure if that's spelled right) To make your uterus start contracting.
I was induced with my first child. Labor is labor. I have had two more children since , I didn't notice any difference in the pain at all. Good luck with your delivery. Hope you have a healthy happy baby. CONGRATULATIONS!

With my 1st son the nurse had the Pitocin real high and the contractions were real close but not making any progress and it did hurt.
With my second son it was fine plus my doctor ruptured my membranes after I had a epidural so I really did not feel to much

I was induced, and my labor lasted for 10 hours. It didn't really hurt until I got to 6 cm...then it was horrible. I can't compare it to a totally natural birth though...I've only had one.

I was induced and it was quite painful. It went so fast that I had to even do it all natural too. Good Luck!

right this is the actuality: The undesirable information: Contractions with pitocin are so lots greater extreme then properly-known contractions. they are greater favourite and greater painful, yet somewhat shorter. they do no longer upward thrust slowly then plateau out. They shoot way up - stay there somewhat, then come backpedal. the best information: besides the indisputable fact that, as quickly as you get the epidural they are in a position to "take place" the pitocin and attempt and speed up your exertions. i became brought about two times because of the fact the two cases my water broke yet contractions did no longer initiate. the two cases have been properly-known vaginal deliveries.
