"WAY OUT WEST" this film slays me every time I watch it. its
another classic comedy from Hal Roach starring the legendary Laurel & Hardy in one of their best features. This time the boys head west to deliver the deed to a gold mine to the daughter of a miner recently deceased. Of course the boys deliver the deed to the wrong person and have to right their wrong.

Many classic Laurel & Hardy moments are included in this film. I am always amused at how Hardy always looked at the audience in frustration over the antics of Laurel. Along with the usual pratfalls, we have the ever present deep hole in the middle of a stream that only Hardy seems to disappear into. Then we have Stan using his thumb as a lighter dumb founding Ollie several times until Ollie's own thumb catches fire. The part where the boys try to break into the saloon at night to retrieve the stolen deed is hilarious. They also perform a delightful soft shoe routine and sing "Trail of the Lonesome Pine" along with the Avalon Boys featuring a very thin Chill Wills.

The rest of the cast includes long time L & H foil James Finlayson as Mickey Finn the villain of the piece and Sharon Lynn as his scheming wife. Another long time L & H foil, Vivian Oakland has a bit in the stagecoach sequence and Stanley Fields appears as the sheriff.

"Way Out West" like all of Laurel & Hardy's films is classic comedy from a bygone era, the like of which we shall never see again.
