Mozilla Firefox and Opera are the two new ones. I have been using Firefox for about a year and love it; it's very easy to use. I just started Opera so haven't reached any conclusions yet. Both are available through free downloads.
Generally they are much safer than IE because not all of these hackers are out there writing worms and viruses to exploit them..the hackers are usually IE focused...don't know how much longer that will last.
Firefox is also much much faster than IE (although IE can be sped up with some tuning...but if you have to know where). Also, both Firefox and Opera allow you to clear private data (history, cache, forms, etc). in 1 easy step In IE, it's all over the place and tedious to clear your private data.
Disadvantage I suppose is that they may not be compatible with everything like IE is. For example, the Yahoo Toolbar is not yet compatible with Opera, but it is for Firefox and IE.

I never use Internet Explorer due to the security issues and how slow it is. I use the following browsers:
Mozilla Firefox: Getfirefox.com - Firefox is the best because rather than having tool bars to customize your broser, you choose extra functions like adblock, VideoDownloader, Stumbleupon etc and you pick the functionality that suits your needs. in addition, firefox is both safer and faster than IE and is a browser that truly was made for the world
Opera: opera.com - Opera is the world's fastest browser. It's true. By offering a light package and faster downloading functionality, this closed source browser are great for people who need to get info fast
Both browsers are free and I reccomment you change to one of them right now and experience the difference

I use Opera - it's had features like tabbed browsing for years, and has a great feature called mouse gestures, which means you can use the mouse to do all sorts of stuff like navigating pages, without needing to go to the top of the page and use the forward/back buttons etc.
Disadvantages are that although Opera is totally HTML compliant, some websites are not, and are designed specifically to work with IE code, and so don't always work 100% correctly in Opera.

Firefox. Much more customizable. You have extensions which are always nice and you can change the theme (or 'skin') of the browser. Plus it is more secure then IE. While it may not be 100% more secure, it is better then IE. Its also easy to back up your bookmarks. The only draw back is that it is slower then IE but with all of the advantages over IE, it really doesn't matter.

Firefox. It has a bunch of helpful add-ons. And if a page only works in Internet Explorer (IE uses broken codes that only work for itself), it has IE Tab! Sometimes it doesn't work, so I still have IE installed. Go to www.mozilla.com to get it!

I would recommend Firefox or Opera. They are both excellent browsers that are highly configurable compared to Internet Explorer.
You would start using them by downloading and installing. Direct download links below.

Firefox, with Adblock-plus and the filterset.g updater extensions.
Advantages - no activex, tabbed browsing, ad-blocking with the extensions I list, customisable, loads of extensions, standards compliance
disadvantages - no activex, sometimes a memory hog

Firefox. It's great because you can open tabs in one window so you don't have a bunch of windows everywhere. Everything is so easy to do and it's really safe and secure. I was introduced by my brother.
