Show your work to galleries and try to get it into shows. Your best bet is probably to find a gallery for local artists in your town or in Chicago. You can probably find the names of these galleries on web sites set up to give information about your town or about Chicago (tourism sites and local art scene sites). Once you have a good list of local artist galleries, just give them a call and see how their system works. You could sell stuff on eBay, but that's more for hobbyists and crafters. If you really want to show your work as art, go to a gallery.

you can post images for free on several art sites. I would suggest doing that and then using the link when you contact galleries or buyers.

www.absolutearts.com -- you can load 4 images and an artist statement for free. if you want more, it's $36 a year for 40 images.

www.artfaceoff.com - - load up to 20 images for free. People can vote on it, there is a $1,000 prize in each category to be awarded eventually

Word of mouth is the best. Its free and it can travel far. Also it helps to have photos of it on a web site so they can look at you art. Also are you around Lake Pepin?

One of the most impressive advertisements I saw for a welding shop out in the middle of a rural remote area where lots of traffic passed by going down to South Florida were these two huge beautiful gleaming stallions in different rearing positions. It brought immediate attention to the welding shop. Though one was excellently done the proportions were slightly off on the other but they were excellent and eye catching. They showed the fact this welder was capable of doing very good commercial welding because the welds on these horses were so smooth and well done. If I had a stretch limosine I wanted to have created as they cut and add sections to such vehicles they would be one of the first shops I would consider because I know the welds would be smooth. That was the objective in their art to advertise the quality of their work. You have to promote yourself in as many creative ways as you can figure out. There was a teacher I was taken to see his welding shop. He was a self taught welder and he did abstracts very beautiful enameled abstract sculptures of various sizes that reminded me greatly of sun dials at times as they had arrows in them. He taught us that one day he made one that was a bird and it sold well so he began to move towards abstracted beautiful birds. He did so well with these that he began hiring art students to help him with his projects and opened up a larger welding shop. He began getting commissioned art work such that one person had him create a three story tall bird that was to go inside a spiral stair case they were designing at their house just for the sculpture. I believe he had begun selling at craft shows when he was discovered. He is still doing his abstract expressionism and style I see it in the birds they are phenomenal but the people can see something they like and relate to immediately in the art with the parts that resemble great beautiful birds. I hope this helps. I just did web pages on the internet because I wanted to share my artwork. A great deal was copied and actually sold as sculptures in minature from China I believe at one time. It was just a change in design and style of colors for a very popular thing to have as a small sculpture but it took off. Very simple indeed but became very popular. I would never have thought to make it a sculpture but I recognized it immediately when I saw it in a store. As they say if someone copies you it is the sincerest form of flattery but it is also an infringement of copy rights and why should someone make a living on your hard work and creativity. Mine was simply an electronic drawing. I will remember this lesson about publishing on the internet such that anything I do not want stolen I will not put on the internet as to art and anything I want stolen as a form of communication in the form of art I will most definitely try to do an excellent job on so it is stolen copied and duplicated. Abstract means taken from the real and some art is more abstracted than others. In the birds people who had difficulty relating to abstract could find something they were familar with such that the abstractions were seen as abstracted beautiful parts of the bird. The artist did not loose in his form of art expression and communication he simply added to it and it was very well desired in that form.

Make yourself a blog and promote by blog and ping.
Also join forums and places like myspace.
Viral(word of mouth ) is very powerful on the web and it's free.
Hope that helps.

Submit your work to as many juried shows and local galleries as possible. Make postcards and mail them to museums and galleries that aren't local. You can also create a website and post it on www.sculpture.com.
