How do I figure out the amount of calories I need to live day to day? Not the amount I should eat, but the amount I actually burn up with no exercise everyday. (sleeping, sitting, eating, talking, etc)

Also, how do I figure out how many calories I lose by doing exercise.

I am 5'4" and 220lbs... how many calories would I burn running for one minute straight at an average speed... or walking 3 miles? (Know any good out door and indoor exercise routines?)

Any other exercises you could provide me with would be great.

Oh, and if you provide links to sites I would really appreciate that also.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

I was very successful with Weightwatchers.com If you subscribe to that web site it helps you know how much you should eat for your size/build. It also breaks down how many calories you burn based on your size and the intensity of your workout. I think it's a great site! It also tells you what a healthy weight is for your size/age. Good luck!

There is a device that a physical trainer can use, but the diagnostic is expensive... But is can tell you your exact medobolic rate in terms of how many calories you need to run your body...

Basically you breath into it and it measures the carbon dioxide output, which is a function of the cellular respiration (how much sugar each cell uses, and then the waste it produces)

My gym has the option for about $300.

Maybe you could see if you doctor can do it for less, if they have the equipment...Maybe insurance would coverit if you are losing weight for your health?

To find how many calories you burn at what speed I just go to the gym and enter my weight into the eliptical and put my hands on the heart rate bar and go for 20 mins, it tells you how many calories you burn.

At a good pace it is motivating, at a putzing around pace, all you get to eat is an apple :(

I doubt without seeing a dietician and taking several complex and expensive medical tests to determine your basic metabolic rate, lung capacity, heart rate, muscular efficency and so on that this could be calculated. Things like age and gender also make a difference.
To work out how much energy you would use to walk three miles you would need to time it and work out around 30 or 40 variables.
This is the only way to be accurate. There are lots of websites which can give you generalised and approximate data but none which can give you the kind of data you want.
