I actually click past the Jerry Springer Show once and saw a guy I knew in High School on once. At anyrate, while I haven't talked to him afterwards, I'm pretty sure he didn't go into acting after high school.
I think the answer is really somewhere in between. I believe they are real people who do go onto the show with real problems. However, I think most of the violence is scripted, and they are pretty much told or at least encouraged to act like they do on the show.

Not usally because my dad got asked to be on it and some go on just to be stars also to call in a case call

Personally, I think that all of Springer's stuff is fake. If it were real, where does he find all these dysfunctional people everyday to do a taping.

I went to the show last year... the guests appeared to be real, but coaxed on how to react, told to fight, etc.

no, they're robots. sorry couldn't resist. they guest are real, but their scenerios are either not real or extremely exaggerated and they are told to behave a certain way.

most likely not!...they all seem to have the same problems...husbands with multiple wives, drug use, prostitution, and big time lesbo issues.
