I tried everything. I lost pounds but I gain it back. I have a problem in my thyroid. My doctor said because I am hypothyroid. I been taking this medication, sythroid for years. But I been gaining weight. I am only 5ft and 190lbs. I use to be sexy but a little bit chubby. But never been fat like this. My husband still love me and very supportive but I don't want my kids to feel ashame of me.

I am 6 feet tall and weight 178lbs. I come from a family where my dad weighed 245lbs @ 5' 10" when he died and his brother died soon after at 5' 11" and 320lbs.

At one time, only 20 months ago I weighted 225lbs. I don't know anything about being hypothyroid but I can tell you the only truly successful way to lose weight and keep it off is a two step process.....

1. Reduce caloric intake (stop eating as much)
2. Increase caloric expenditure (exercise or do more more exercise)

Come on, if all those commercials showing actors with excellent bodies were accurate hardly any one would be over weight. Heck, something like 63% of all Americans are considered over weight or obese. Do you think that would be true if all the diet pills, fat reducing creams, the amazing abdominal exercise as you watch TV belts and the magical Thigh Master actually worked?

I am glad that your husband still loves you and try not to worry about how you kids feel. I used to feel embarrassed by my dad's weight, but I got over it because I realized that no matter what I loved him and he loved me; even when I screwed up on occasion.

Best of luck to you...and remember, always consult your doctor before starting a new exercise program!

You are sound like a very good mom, you cook and take care of your family.

You did not list here how did you lose your pounds before. So, I will let you know what works for my mom.

She loves to do aerobics. She loves it because going to aerobic class is like a little vacation (away) from her routinity. In addition, she met a lot of people who has same concern, like losing weight, and she start forming a buddy system.

We cannot avoid eating. If we do not eat, we will be in a bigger trouble that weight trouble. So, exercise is the key. You don't have to start with big things, just try to walk around the block everyday after dinner. This is good for your heart. We all need a happy mom. My mom is a happy person. I miss her. You remind me of her.

You will and you can lose weight. It will take commitment and take one step at a time. Don't rush! Good luck!

Your doctor should be able to advise or to appoint you a dietician....but in my experience the sure way is to eat loads of fresh fruit and vegetables, plain cooked vegetables, and lean meat or fish. Leave out all sugars, fats and sugar drinks.
