After stalling in a flood puddle (water approximately up to the door but just enough not to leak into the inside of the car) my 2001 Pontiac Sunfire GT (automatic) drove 110 miles (and 24 hours) just fine but then began to not shift properly. The RPM's go up between 4 to 5 at 25 to 30 mph before the car shifts into the second gear. On the interstate, it doesn't want to shift into the final gear at all (70 to 75 mph.) We have replaced: neutral saftey switch and the manifold absolute pressure sensor and had the transmission flushed but the problem has not gone away. The "check engine" light is on but registering the same code to the parts we already replaced. Of possible interest is the "trac off" light which has also come on. Help!

First off did you replace the vacuum modulator? Flushing a transmission is a waste of time and money. Drain the tranny, replace the internal filter. replace the modulator if applicable. If this doesn't do anything, better get it to and AAMCO tranny shop, or my personal preference is Cottman, they do a full service inspection for free to diagnose any and all problems. If you feel brave then call around to some salvage yards, buy a used one and get greasy swapping it out. ( cheaper than a rebuild)

first line of diagnostics would be to drive the car with scan tool hooked up to see if vss is telling the pcm correct info regarding actual speed car is going. if not then that has to be corrected.I assume trans is 4 speed 4t40 . one other thing if its a 3 speed auto 125-c then the tv cable or gov could be problem .if it has dipstick its a 3 speed .hope this helps

sounds like you have a pressure issue you need a gm scan tool to see where the pressures are when you shift the data screen will tell you if that's the case you probably have to replace 1 or more shift solenoid's in the trans
