There is no way that you can tell if you are dialating without a Dr...If this is your first baby...then chances are that you will go overdue (all first babies are usually late) Again everybody's labour is different...it may come on gradually over a period of days, or may hit you like a ton of bricks all at once. I had to be induced...it really wasn't that bad ( I had complications so I was induced a week early)

We all have the same worries with our first hun, don't worry about it. Nothing you do will make a difference. Medically proven. Just enjoy your last days of being childless and revel in it. Do all the things you'll never be able to do again, read a magazine uninterrupted. get a pedicure/manicure. Wander around the shops. Honestly its the best advice I was ever given, didn't understand what they were on about. Do Now though.
Labour is different for everyone, first time never happened, was induced and ended up having a Cesarean, second time started labour and didn't want to go to hospital, wanteda cup of tea and bath! But both babies came out healthy and fine, which is all that matters in the end! Good Luck and try not to stress.

Labor is different for every woman. and no there is no way to tell you're dialting without a doctor. The baby will come when the baby is ready whether you want to deliver on time or not. That's life.

No, there's really no way of knowing. Believe me you'll be able to tell when your labor really begins, but be careful because severe back pains can be a sign of labor in some people. Others just have pains in the lower abdomen. The best thing to do is relax, walk a lot, and don't worry the baby will come when he/she is ready. Good Luck.

Its a gradual process but the symptoms may appear suddenly, as you may not know that you're dilating and such. Knowing how much you're dilated without a doctor is a tricky one. Good luck with that. Im due on the 13th and Im soooo ready. Try the natural induction techniques. Walking, sex, spicy food, nipple stimulation, etc etc. It defintely can't hurt.

When the baby drops down you will feel like its easier to breath, so take a breath & stop believing the horror stories.
Birth isn't that bad really!
Each birth is a little different, so no one can tell you it's like tiptoeing thru the tulips, but labor is over pretty quickly & you forget the pain after you look in your baby's eyes!
Good Luck!

well, some people will start suddenly, while others, will slowly get there. If this is your first, you will be less in the know, and it will probably take a little longer for the head to come down. Don't sign any papers or tell them that you don't want the epiderel!!! you need it!!! Congrats on the little one and I hope there is little pain, and lots of love.
Walking can bring on the contractions!
