The same way I perceived them after watching the 2003 finals. The best 2 NBA teams kept missing shot after shot and I told my wife there was no way they would win the 2004 olympics. Sure enough they didn't. The NBA is a shadow of its former self, don't expect the US to win either the olympics or the world basketball championships again any time soon. It was inevitable with a sport that's become so popular worldwide. The English invented soccer, but who knows when they'll ever win another world cup championship.

I don't think it will change how people view the NBA that much. While they might argue that the Greek, Spanish, Argentine leagues might be better, the NBA still is the highest paying league by far. And every basketball player's dream is to play in the NBA not any Euro Leagues. You might see an influx of more foreign players but all in all despite this loss basketballl is still an American sport and while the NBA continues to dole out millions of dollars to average players it will remain the center of the basketball world. The day that a European team pays a top notch player $120million for 6 years will be the day that the NBA will cease from being the premier basketball league in the world.

NBA owners will start looking into a pool of good world players who are cheaper. I don't think world's view on NBA will change much. Just like England football team sucks, but there are so many viewers and fans of the Premier League (including me). Or the Spanish football team is beautiful to watch but choked all the time, yet so many people watch La Liga. That's because they have all kinds of offense-defense styles and lots of talented players around the world in the leagues. NBA is slowly going to that direction.
Add: Someone say the real dream team? It's always nice to live in a history. If Shaq was in that game, then Greece would have won by 20 points. Why? Because he IS A LIABILITY to the pick-and-roll offense, and he SUCKED at freethrows. Despite how horrible FT % US had yesterday, adding Shaq will only make US look worse. Jusr face it, you guys got served.

Probably the same way the world views the NHL even when Canada lost every Olympic hockey gold medal from 1956 to 1998 - the NHL has always been seen as the world's premier hockey league where all the best players in the world want to play. So, the Stanley Cup is still de facto the World Championship.
In other words - don't worry about it!

i've always been wary of single elimination games since a more superior team can have an off night and lose....given the less accurate shooting percentages of the usa team their loss of only 6 points was an indication of their superior talent...they were outshot 62 to 50 percent and only sank 59% from the free throw line...i really think fiba should change the single elimination format for the semis and finals so fluke winners would be more far-fetched...best of three would make the americans probable winners in their recent losses in the international scene

did the world stop spinning when we be the Russians in Hockey...
NO, this wasnt a dream team. the players that should have been there, werent... Shaq, Garnette, IVerson, Kobe, etc,,,, they dont have as much time to practice together as the other teams. we play one one one and rely on full court defense to win.
Coach K is a joke and should have picked better players... come on now Battier>>???? Hinrich,,, who the hell is he...
the real Dream Team won by 40 every game.
the real players say they are hurt or dont want to play.
Iverson cant get weed overseas so he wont go..
with these 60 other greece and us questions.. you asked one dumb one too.. good job

That the Europeans are coming on strong and will soon have a superstar player in the NBA that will single-handly dominate the game.
