I worked for an appliance store and we had a new refrigerator go bad while the people we on vacation. Amana replace the refrigerator for the people. Once it gets into the insulation it is hard to get the smell out. I have taken two of the condemned refrigerators home with me and cleaned them up good and they have been fine. I did let them air for awhile though. I cleaned them well with ammonia and I used baking soda. Somehow it seems like you still have some bad moisture from the food in a part of you refrigerator that you have not been able to reach. There are also charcoal things that you can get for your refrigerator. There is also like a rubber duck bill shaped thing that lets water from the evaporator leak into a tray under your refrigerator. Each manufacturer has their own device. I like using ammonia and baking soda though.

After washing it out with baking soda/ water you can place a saucer or custard cup with pure vanilla extract (imitation does not work) in the fresh food and freezer sections. The vanilla absorbs the odor and gives off a nice odor of it's own. You can also place a few charcoal briquettes wrapped in a paper towel to assist. The odor usually gets less once everything is back to temperature as well.

as long as its clean, which it sounds it is by now , keep a box of Arm and Hammer odor absorber baking soda in there. The smell will eventually dissapate, I think you've done enough, only other thing i would clean it with for smell would be white vinegar but then again, thats a smell of its own. Good luck- Tracey

Clean out the fridge then buy some Vanilla essence. Wipe the essence all over the fridge and then leave the bottle of essence in the fridge with the lid off. This really works.

Bleach, Baking Soda, and TIME. If you can do without the unit for a while, take it outside in the SUNSHINE!

All good ideas that have been offered, another thing you might do, I know we did it on aircraft in galleys, and I have done it on my boat also, and that is to use a steam cleaner. This will hopefull remove the odors and germs that are imbedded in the plastic/rubber.
