In 325 AD, the council of Nice issued an edict that read, in pertinent part, "Easter was to fall upon the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the Vernal Equinox; and if said full moon fell on a Sunday, the Easter should be the Sunday after."
The Easter celebration was coordinated with older, pre-Christian celebrations of spring. The direct relationship to Sunday as the day sacred to the Sun, the ultimate symbol of life, is obvious; yet the subtle connections to the earlier celebrations of the time of planting and the Moon are of equal importance in determining the day of the Easter celebration.

Never mind that it's always on a Sunday. Determining the actual date is unbelievably complicated. See the web pages that I put links to under "Sources" below. The wikipedia article (2nd source below) says that Easter's date is "based on a lunar calendar similar—but not identical—to the Hebrew Calendar. The precise date of Easter has often been a matter for contention."

Jesus was crucified on a Friday(also called Good Friday) on the third day(Sunday) he rose from the dead. Easter is on a Sunday because that is the day that he rose from the dead.
It is the most important holiday in the world because it proves that Jesus is God because he defeated death.

in the bible days the jewish community celebrated the pass over,
the pass over stemed from when the death angel came to kill the first born in every house hold in egypt, whoever's door post didnt have the blood from the lamb that was slaughtered over their door post was killed.
the death angel passed over them that had the blood on their door post which is why they called it the pass over. when they were freed from bondage, they also celebrated it because they thanked GOD for delivering their people out of bondage.
that day was always on the sabbath day which is a sunday but i believed they celebrated it for a few days or weeks. a day of rest. easter is some what like the pass over, a day to remember GOD for all the things he has done, even though every day we should remember, its a day of remembrance.
but we should also remember that easter and christmas are both man made holidays because neither GOD or JESUS told us to celebrate JESUS birth and call it christmas nor did he tell us to celebrate easter in that manner. all JESUS said was that as often as ye drink this wine and eat of this bread we should remember him until he comes. for believers every day is christmas and easter because we should remember him each day.. but that is why easter is on a sunday.

Because Jesus was killed on a Friday, and then (according to Christianity) he rose on the third day (i.e. Sunday). Easter celebrates his rising from the dead
