Is this like a spirit week? If so hat day is always a hit. A certain color on one day is great fun. Hawaii day is a lot of fun; student council can pass out leis as kids walk in. Kids like to wear pajamas to school. At one school where we worked we had "Knight Time" because the mascot was a knight. Kids got to wear appropriate pajamas to school.

Get some classroom experience. Teaching both those ranges of ages can be very rewarding, but find out which is better for you. I've taught from grade 1 to University and now I greatly enjoy university level... I can't sit on the floor and move as fast as I did when teaching little kids, a magic age.

If you meant to be the compere or facilitator, know your facts.
Have on hand a list of all the events / all competitors / start times for each event / venues so that you can give directions / where to access First Aid / what the plan is for bad weather / who you can call on to track information / double check sound gear / make sure your voice is clear and that you are projecting it.
If there is a lull in proceedings have info. available / know what is on sale if there is to be a food outlet / know who is responsible for what because you may need to direct people / sound like you are enjoying yourself... Good luck...

Compering? I've been in teaching 30 years and never heard of the term. That's why old dinosaurs like me need to retire, the new teachers have absolutely no qualifications to teach.

I don't like the way she was handling the dog...but i know that in many areas bringing a dog into any school grounds without school permission is not legal. I would not make a fuss as you may find yourself in a lot of legal troubles. Don't take the dog to school uninvited. cheers
