Dont do anything your doctor doesnt want you to do. If you think about using castor oil to induce your own labor is could be potentially harmful to your baby. My friends swear by it, but i had asked my own doctor and she said that it could cause things such as blindness in your baby, or death. I wouldnt induce just because your back hurts, your back will still hurt after labor. I'd got the epidural during labor and its still killing my lower back and my son is 15 months old. But when you weigh your options i think back pain isnt worse then 8+ hours of hard labor.

Technically after 37 weeks your baby would not be considered pre-term, So he/she would be fine. Most doctors that are doing a planned c-section schedule them between 38 and 39 weeks anyway. My Oldest daughter was born at 38 weeks, and she was perfect, my youngest daughter was born at 34 weeks and weighed over 5 lbs already, and was still ok. But everyone is different. If your dr. will induce you then it should be ok. Alot of people say just wait laaatiiidaaa, Sometimes you are so miserable you can't wait. If I had to wait another six weeks with my youngest, I wouldn't have been able to function, I was swollen and miserable. My dr. wouldn't have taken her if it wasn't safe. Good Luck...

This of course is something that you should discuss with your doctor. A fetus is viable outside the womb at about 25 weeks, although with great difficulty. Full gestation is 40 weeks, so 38 weeks is definitely within a reasonable range for delivery. BUT, this is something you should evaluate with the help of your obstetrician. There may be some good reasons why you should endure the lower back discomfort for the sake of your child. Again, get your doctors advice. He or she cares about both of you.

If you're really miserable, its technically safe to induce. However, unless your baby is danger, its safer to go naturally. The back pain is probably a sign that labor is about to start. Im 38 weeks and miserable too, so Im try all the natural induction techniques (sex, nipple stimulation, spicy food, walking, etc etc). Many people feel differently about inducing so its really up to you and your doctor, but yes it is technically safe. Good luck to you.

Talk to your doctor about it, if its your first baby most likely he'll make you wait a bit longer. But asking wouldn't hurt. Have you been examined yet,to see if youv'e dilated? If you are maybe thats what your back pain is all about, your dilating. But do check your doc. just to be sure,at 38 weeks you are very close, and don't want anything to go wrong. To soothe some of your pains and help you dilate faster, try sitting in your bathtub full of warm water, before bedtime every night. Good Luck!

You can. It is better to be induced for a medical reason, rather than for a woman who is uncomfortable or tired of being pregnant.

I doubt that your Dr will induce you unless there is a really good reason for doing so

Try to hang in there!!

if you are not really ready to be induced then it wont work, and then you will have to have a c-section, and i can tell you that the other route is way easier to recover from. just wait, you will not be pregnant forever, i promise.
