it is unlikely that the DUI will be something that can be removed, the DUI offense is enhanceable, which means that if you have that same offense more than once within a ten year period, the level of the offense increases. First one is a misdemeanor, second one gross misdemeanor, etc until you hit felony level by having your fourth DUI. This is Minnesota law, and may not apply to your location, but the principle of keeping DUI/DWI offenses on your record is likely similar there since repeat offenders who drive drunk are looked upon rather harshly.

Some places allow a Record to be "Expunged" after
five years if there are no marks against you in that time.

Don't know about California. Talk to your local Police
Chief in your city in North Carolona. He should be able
to tell you the steps to take, starting where you live.

Laws vary from State to State. Ask your question in one
of the Police catagories. You may get some help there.

Unfortunately we have to pay for the mistakes we make usually for the rest of our lives. That is why it is extremely important that we try and educate others about the seriousness of our decisions and how they can affect us years down the road. If we can learn from each others mistakes then we will all make fewer mistakes. You are now living with the consequences of your decisions. While our decisions may not affect the very moment that we make them; they will one day (as we say) come back to haunt us. Be very careful and weigh all your options before you make a decision.
