The World Wide Web can't really be described as hardware or software. There are hardware and software components that make up its existance, however. Websites are hosted on hardware - web servers, whereas web browsers that are essential for accessing the web are software. To sum it up - the Web is basically a network or hardware and software, and lots of other components too!

World Wide Web is combination of both software and hardware. Softwares are used to upload the web page. It may be front end tool, back end database or any middle wares. Hardwares are used as servers.

The common host name for a Web server. The "www-dot" prefix on Web addresses is widely used to provide a recognizable way of identifying a Web site. Computers read Web addresses (URLs) from right to left, so that the WWW is the last component of the address

It's both. The WWW is comprised of webpages (obviously) among other things. All webpages are hosted off servers which contain the data within their software (OS and applications). This software runs on hardware (so both software and hardware for www). As well as routers telling packets where to go and the best path. (comprised of hardware and software..(NOS)).

So pretty much if someone says that the world wide web is just software...what does the software run on? ;)

The World Wide Web ("WWW" or simply the "Web") is a global, read-write information space. Text documents, images, multimedia and many other items of information, referred to as resources, are identified by short, unique, global identifiers called Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs) so that each can be found, accessed and cross-referenced in the simplest possible way.

The term is often mistakenly used as a synonym for the Internet itself, but the Web is actually something that is available via the Internet, just like e-mail and many other Internet services.

Software can NOT run without hardware as such the information is the software component and the hardware is where the information is located and hardware is also how the information is moved to where the information is needed and or wanted.

It's neither. It is just a network to use to communicate to each other. It's like a phone line
or a telegraph line or a radio transmitter. It's
available to be used by hooking up 2 computers
(hardware) which then may be loaded with
an operating program (ROM) "Read only memory" and may also allow computer cd's
or dvds (software) to complete different tasks.

Neither. Its really nothing but data.

If you mean Internet Explorer or a browser to VIEW the world wide web, that is software.

Software--You can't touch it. Anything tangible like the mouse, the monitor, hard drive or other peripherals are hardware.
