Pff... No hammer needed, all I used was a screwdriver to pry it off ^_^

BTW, they aren't glued on, that is jsut some stuff they use for better heat conduction, it gets a bit sticky when it dries.

Oh, and I would never buy a laptop. They suck :p

The cooling panels are actually called a heat sink and it is held on by a spring clip that you have to release.

what you do is power off the pc take the cover off then stand back and thing hmm what can i do to remove them then go get your tools box
now take your hammer out and have a sledge hammer with you now look at the motherboard
start taping it with the hammer hit the ram card's and the modem card
then take a good shot at the power box if that comes off your half way there then hit the cd rom drive till that comes off then hit the hard drive and make sure you break the hard drive up now you all set to get the

processor cooling panals off
so take your : sledge hammer take a good hit at the motherboard with it if you dont here it go crack hit it again verry hard then get the pc take it out side and get in your car run over it no more then 20 times and no less then 20 times then your done then drive off to a pc store and buy a laptop

DELL

keeping us abreast of the multiple exploding incidents involving Dell laptops. The Inquirer was the first to break the disturbing news with some startling photos of the sudden laptop explosion that occurred during a Japanese conference. According to one witness: "

The damn thing was on fire and produced several explosions for more than five minutes." Luckily, no one was hurt during that incident, or the one that soon followed. Yes, a second Dell laptop caught on fire, and this time, Tom's Hardware had some pictures taken by an engineer on the scene. Unfortunately, it looks like the pictures have already been removed.

I have a Dell, and I'd lie if I didn't admit that I fear an explosion every time I use it ever since I came across those photos. According to CNet, Dell has confirmed that it will start a 4.1 million notebook battery recall starting on Tuesday. Owners of Dell Inspirion, Latitude, Precision Mobile Workstations and XPS units shipped between April 1, 2004 and July 18, 2006 will be among those affected. You can call 1-866-342-0011 or visit Dell's website for more details regarding this recall. If you happen to have one of the models listed above, you're advised to eject the battery from the notebook after powering down, and run your PC on AC power until you get your replacement battery. An analyst with Endpoint Technologies Associates said, "This is the largest battery recall in the history of the electronics industry."

So start checking those batteries, and if they say "Made in Japan" or "Made in China" chances are they need to be replaced.

Another Dell Laptop Goes BOOM!
Fri Jul 28, 2006 1:27PM EDT

Well this is starting to get ridiculous.http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=32550

On the heels of last month's Dell-laptop-turned-into-tower-... comes a new story, with a bunch of scary, scary pictures. Click through to the post on Tom's Hardware for the full shebang: Yes, that's a hole burned right through the base of the notebook.

Unfortunately there's not much of a story to go along with the pictures. The laptop was sitting on a desk (closed), then it's suddenly on fire. The resulting chaos required the fire department to be called and the building cleared.

The poster also relates a pretty awesome story about the aftermath (and I fixed the spelling): The engineer whose laptop it had been ... heard there was a fire and that we all had to go outside. Being the noble engineer that he is, he quickly wanted to grab his laptop!

Whoops.

Still no response from Dell on these issues aside from a vague "we're looking into it."

depends. most are either snapped on or held in by some screws or whatever. the dells I have used these panels are usually glued onto the processor so no real way to get them off without potentially damaging the processor

Ok this will take some time and you will need your tool box. Plus a blow tourch. First take your hammer and screwdriver and pry off your lid to your tower. After that is done you must pull out the drives the cd drives and the floppy drive. After that is done you can throw them away because they are no good anymore. Ok now we are starting to get into the serious part. You must take off the motherboard. After that is done you have to go into your toolbox and pull out your blow tourch and a pair of pliers. Start your tourch and heat up the cooling rods. After they are red hot rip them out. You have to use alot of force for thatso dont be gentle. After that is done you will need to look at your motherboard and take your hammer. Because there is a part of the motherboard that has to be destroyed. It is the lower right hand side of the motherboard. After you done that you have to take the motherboard and put it back in. Weld it back into your pc. After that is done you need to take your sound card and video card out and break the top half of each of the cards and then put them back in and weld them back in there. Ok now for the drives that you tossed aside. Now you have to take your tourch and hammer and you must heat up the lense of each drive and take a little tap with just enough force to bend the glass of the lense. After you do that you can take everything and put it back together and start it up and enjoy your faster pc.
