Yes, you can.
For Firefox, you can install PCman's IE Tab extension (can be found at http://addons.mozilla.com/ -- just search for it) to easily switch between the Firefox or IE rendering engines. So you have the best of both worlds, in one browser window! :D

By the way, "Explorer" actually refers to "Windows Explorer" and not "Internet Explorer".

Firefox is SOOO much better than IE. You can have both installed at once, just indicate which you want to use as your default browser. IE is useful to download Firefox, but not for much else.

Yes, you can have multiple browsers on one computer. Just keep in mind that most web sites and web applications are written for Explorer since it is the most widely used.

I use firefox mainly, but I also have IE on my computer - mainly because a lot of my uni stuff doesn't work in FF. A lot of coding that works in IE also doesn't work in FF because IE accepts sloppy coding.

WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING? DO YOU USE AOL????

IE has to be on every windows machine, you cant get rid of it.
As such I would feel safe to say that you can have both at the same time. Running, even, at the same time.
