Seriously, I totally get what your saying. I feel the same way. I think they call it not being photogenic. I absolutely hate pics of me. They, to me look very different than what I see in the mirror. I don't have any words of advice but don't stress it too much. I have seen really beautiful people in photos and looking not quite as spectacular in person.

Well, I think it's probably because you're a 3D creature, while the photograph is a 2D medium, which means that it has to depict something that is 3 dimensional on a 2 dimensional plane. So unfortunately, some flattening and lessening of depth will occur, which can account for the fact that we don't look completely like ourselves in photos. That's why people say someone has great bone structure for photographs and are photogenic, as these people tends to be more pronounced in their features thus the flattening effect is less pronounced. And why we have a good side for photographs.

Some tips for taking a good portrait: try not to have pictures taken of you from a low angle (ie the camera from lower than your eye-line which tends to emphasize double chins etc) Take pictures from slightly above and to the side of you, this tends to lessen the flattening effect than of a photo taken front on.

i actually worry about this.
how can what the camera sees be so different from what i see in the mirror? Isn't that along the same lines as when an anorexic looks in the mirror and sees a fat person? I hate photos of myself cause I think they are the true image, what I see in the mirror must be a distortion of the truth. I must be delusional!

There might be some minor asymmetries in your face. People tend not to notice them in mirrors, because they are used to seeing themselves reflected. But they stand out in a picture -- because the image is not reversed. So -- a five degree angle on your nose looks like ten degrees off of where you usually see it.

Plastic Surgeons actually have special mirrors that show people what they look like to others (there is a double reflection so your right side reflects on the left). They do this because it accentuates the imperfections, making people want to fix them.

Try scanning one of your pictures into your computer & then reflecting it & see if you like them better.

Because a picture is a head-on shot of you as everyone sees you. But a mirror is a reverse image of you. It makes a difference. Look at a cat in a mirror and you can see what I mean.

I have the same problem. I don't know what it is. I even tried posing in the mirror and have someone take a picture of me and it looked bad in comparrison to what I saw in the mirror and they said the same thing too. I only have one good picture of me and what's funny is that my 2 year old took the camera andtook a picture but it's the only good one that I have and my scanner isn't working right so I can't even upload it.

Yeah, i think of that's because of the fact as quickly as we glance interior the mirror we make diffused ameliorations to our facial expression so we glance the way we adore. while somebody in basic terms takes a image individuals we don't probable understand what to do with our faces. So regrettably, in accordance to this theory, the photos are extra precise to how human beings see us! yet luckily, they have continuously seen you that way and in the event that they did no longer ideas your grotesque mug back then, they at the instant are not gonna care now. :)
